Hey {{ first name | reader }},
There’s something in the air, I have never had THIS many women telling me they’re looking for their next role. And they’ve started applying super early this year, weeks before anyone usually does. The market is in your favour, because there are more open roles than this time last year, and the September hiring surge hasn’t even ‘officially’ started yet.
And then I get on a call with one of them and hear "I don't understand why I haven’t landed my next role yet".
You are SO good at your job. And you're applying for roles and not getting them. Or getting to the final round and hearing they went with someone else (which is the WORST). Or you watch someone with less experience than you get the job you wanted.
The reason why is probably not what you think
You might think it's the market, because everyone says it's brutal right now. Or you just think you need to apply to more roles. I've had this exact conversation with I don't even know how many women this year, and it is almost NEVER any of those things.
At work, you've never had to explain your value
Your manager actively tells you you’re amazing at your job, your performance reviews say ‘exceeded expectations’, prob 4 years running. Then you apply somewhere else, and you're starting from zero.
Your work experience is explained on just 2 pages in your CV, and 45 mins per interview to explain 15+ years of experience. So everything a Hiring Manager will know about you is what’s on those 2 pages and what you tell them in that interview; that’s it.
And it's the same gap everywhere. It's on your CV, your answer to "tell me about yourself." It's when someone asks what you would bring to the team, and you hear yourself giving an answer that's ‘ok’, but it doesn’t really land, not how you wanted to anyway.
You know redoing your CV isn't going to fix it, that's usually why women book a call with me in the first place. It’s about what to say across all touchpoints that Recruiters and Hiring Managers have with you - your CV, your LinkedIn profile, in the referral notes and of course in your interviews. And it’s hard doing that by yourself!
My last Tech Career Catalyst cohort of the year starts 14 September
We’ll be with a small group of 8 women, and before we even get started, we’re going to lay the foundation in a 1:1 call, where I’ll share your personal job search strategy with you, so you can hit the ground running. We’ll take FULL advantage of the September hiring surge (because companies need to fill their open roles before the end of the year)
If you’re still reading and feel like you’re in the same boat - actively going for your next role, but not sure why you haven’t landed it yet - I’m happy to share your personal strategy on how you can get there on a call. Book 30 minutes with me here. We'll go through where you're at, what role you're going for, and whether TCC is the right way to get you there. You'll leave that call knowing what your next move is either way.
And if you're not ready for a call, click reply with the main challenge in your job search, and I’ll reply with how to fix that.
Talk soon,
Jen 💜
P.S. The TCC is € 500 OFF until Monday, 31 August!
