The positioning mistakes keeping you from getting hired
Hey reader,
If you've been putting yourself out there for weeks (or months) and are starting to wonder when you’ll finally land an offer, I want to share some insights into what I often see happen.
It's so frustrating when you feel like you're doing everything right in your job search, but the results just aren't there. You know you're good at what you do, you know you'd be incredible in these roles, but something isn't clicking.
I need you to know this isn't about you not being good enough!
Over the past 2 years, I've worked with 65+ incredible women in Tech who felt exactly like this. Women with amazing experience and proven track records who somehow couldn't get their job search to work the way they wanted.
What I keep seeing is that most women need to learn how to position what they already have so it becomes irresistible to Hiring Managers. And with just over a month left before the holiday hiring freeze hits, getting this right could be what lands you an incredible role before 2025 ends.
The main gaps women face
I see women facing the same positioning gaps over and over again:
You're applying but not getting interviews for roles you actually want. Your CV isn't telling a clear story about what you want and where you can add value. Hiring Managers can't picture you solving their specific problems.
How to fix this: Get crystal-clear on what role and company you're targeting, then make sure your CV reflects the specific impact you'd make in those roles.
Recruiters aren't messaging you on LinkedIn. Your LinkedIn profile is telling a completely different story from your CV, or no story at all. When recruiters search for the perfect candidate, you're not showing up because your positioning doesn't match what they're looking for.
How to fix this: Update your LinkedIn to highlight the same value you bring as your CV. Make sure both tell the same compelling story.
You're getting interviews, but they're not progressing. You can't translate your achievements into conversation in a way that connects. When they ask about your biggest wins, you either downplay them or share stories that don't land.
How to fix this: Practice explaining your biggest wins in 60-90 seconds and connect them to the company’s biggest problems and challenges.
Hiring managers like you, but don't make offers. You were clearly qualified, but you didn't make them think "we absolutely need her on our team." They walked away interested but not impressed.
How to fix this: Research their challenges before every interview and prepare specific examples of how you've solved similar problems.
The offers are way below your expectations. They're not sure about your value, so they lowball you. You end up negotiating from a position of weakness instead of strength.
How to fix this: Ask about the salary range in your first recruiter call and be clear on your expectations. Then practice explaining exactly how you'll solve their problems and what results they can expect.
Why right now is actually perfect timing
November and December are actually one of the best months to land a role in Tech. Companies are rushing to fill open positions before their budgets reset in January. Hiring Managers want to start the new year with their teams in place. And there's less competition because most people think it's "too late" to start looking.
But you need to move fast and strategically.
The women who land incredible roles in the next 6 weeks focus on getting their positioning absolutely right first. They fix these gaps quickly and then approach their applications as the obvious choice for their dream roles.
