While everyone's sipping their favourite holiday drink and thinking about holiday plans, a lot is happening behind the scenes in Tech companies right now. It’s “use it or lose it” for hiring budgets

Let me pull back the curtain on what's happening inside Tech companies right now: Department heads are in daily meetings looking at their remaining 2024 headcount budget. The reality is that if they don't use this budget by December 31st, it vanishes. And guess what? No hiring manager wants to explain to their boss why they couldn't fill those crucial roles.

This creates a perfect opportunity for you. The roles that open now are urgent priorities which means faster decision-making and less competition as other people check out for the holidays. I've seen hiring processes that normally take 6-8 weeks get compressed into just 3 weeks towards December. Why? Because hiring managers are motivated to move FAST.

Your strategic move: Reach out to your network THIS WEEK. Message those hiring managers directly on LinkedIn. You might catch them at a great time as they want to fill their open roles.

Less competition means more attention 

Job seekers take their foot off the gas towards the holidays. People convince themselves that ‘nobody hires in December’ and put their search on pause. While others take a break, you'll stand out in a smaller candidate pool. Last year, my client was interviewing for a role at a big Tech company in November and December and signed her job offer just 4 days before Christmas, to start her new job in January!

Your strategic move: Set up job alerts of your favourite companies on LinkedIn. Get your referral within 24 hours of posting so you'll be in the first batch of applications. Recruiters will usually schedule their first screening conversations from this first batch.

While others are winding down, you're winding UP. The perfect role could be waiting for you before the holidays start.

Don't let anyone tell you to "wait until January" because December is a hidden gem for landing your dream role.
