Hey {{ first name | reader }},
Every time I talk about salary negotiation, I get the same DMs on LinkedIn: "ok but HOW do I actually do it?" So today I'm breaking down the exact steps, because salary negotiations start wayyy before the offer stage!
Let me start by saying that I used to be so scared to negotiate my salary! Every time an offer came in, my heart would beat out of my chest, and I just accepted it without negotiating bc I was scared to look greedy or lose the job π
At the same time, I was watching less qualified people earn more money while doing less impactful work, which made me feel sick. I was leaving thousands of β¬β¬β¬β¬ on the table! I learned that the people who earned more than me were better at sharing their business impact. And I had so many wins to share!
So during my next offer conversation, I pitched my impact and asked for a ridiculously high amount of money (my hands were shaking, not gonna lie)β¦ and they said YES.
I kept using this strategy and ended up 5Xing my salary in 5 years π€―
Now I teach other women in Tech to do the same, and the results my clients are getting are absolutely INSANE:
A Strategic AE who secured an EXTRA β¬100K
A Senior HR Manager who DOUBLED her salary (yes, literally 2x!! π₯³)
A Senior Marketeer who landed a 50% salary jump!
A Senior Sales Manager who got a 25% increase!
Most women think salary negotiations are about having 1 conversation at offer stage, but thatβs not the case! My clients above built and worked towards that number from the first step in their job search, months before an offer was anywhere in sight.
So if you want THOSE numbers, here's where you want to start:
1. Get crystal clear on the role you're targeting
Vague targets get vague offers. If you're applying to five different types of roles at five different levels, you don't have a specific case to build for a specific number. Know exactly what role, what level, what scope, before you work on your CV.
2. Set your salary range before you apply
Do the market research on what Tech companies are actually paying for that role right now, and talk to people in your network doing the same job. Walk in with a real range in mind, and your βwalk away numberβ.
3. Revamp your CV and LinkedIn positioning
This is where most women lose money before a recruiter has even looked at their profile. It needs to be immediately obvious where and how you make an impact, not just what your tasks & responsibilities were.
4. Verify the range in the recruiter screening
When the recruiter shares (or asks for) a range, this is your moment to anchor. Confirm you're interviewing for roles at the higher end of it, or share a higher range of your own. And if what they can offer doesn't come close? That's useful info too; it tells you whether this interview process is even worth your time.
5. Build your interview stories around impact
Every story needs to answer one question: how do you solve this company's biggest problems? Revenue, cost savings, efficiency, time saved, make it obvious!
6. Tie it all together at the offer stage
Go back to your interview notes. Why did this hiring manager specifically want YOU? What impressed them about your experience? That's exactly what you reflect back when you ask for your number.
By the time you're on that offer call, you already KNOW why you're worth it, because you built the case for it at every single step.
