Highlighting your achievements is not bragging, it’s stating facts.

"Your value will be not what you know; it will be what you share." - Ginni Rometty, Former Chairman, President, and CEO of IBM

Hey Reader,

What accomplishments are you most proud of in your career?

At the beginning of my own career, I struggled to talk about my successes at work. I either felt like I was bragging or like I couldn’t put into words the impact I made beyond just completing tasks. Reflecting on my accomplishments and the value I brought as a professional was a critical step in rising to shine in my career.

In our last issue, we delved into the importance of setting clear career targets to align your job search with your values and long-term goals. This week, we’re moving on to the second step of the THRIVE Method: Highlight.

H - Highlight

Recognize the value, accomplishments, experience, and results you bring to the table, and learn how to showcase these on your CV and LinkedIn profile. This step is all about understanding and articulating your unique contributions and strengths.

Why "Highlight" Matters

Stand out in a competitive market.

In the tech industry, the competition can be fierce. Highlighting your achievements effectively and authentically will show employers who you truly are as a professional and why you are the strongest candidate for the job. When potential employers see the real, tangible impact you've had in previous roles, they will have a better understanding of how you align with their needs and values (and vice versa!). This approach will help you land the right job, not just any job.

Build confidence and visibility.

Recognizing and showcasing your achievements and results not only enhances your visibility in your professional network but also boosts your confidence. And when you’re confident in your value, it shines through in interviews and networking opportunities, which will inevitably make you a more attractive candidate. For employers to believe in your value, you have to believe in it first.

Craft your professional story.

You can learn how to define and explain your professional journey. By effectively highlighting the milestones you've reached, you create a compelling story that showcases your growth, adaptability, and expertise. This story is not just for potential employers but also for yourself, reinforcing your sense of accomplishment and purpose.
